Wellness Committee SIAC Minutes – 2019

Wellness Committee/SIAC Committee Meeting Minutes

On August 19 2019 at 6:00 pm, The SIAC Committee held their regular meeting. I (Julie Welsh) attended per request to update this committee regarding Recent Wellness Policy revisions, the Wellness Committee requirements and members, as well as future needs of the committee. The Wellness Committee is required to hold several meetings throughout the year in order to be in compliance with state guidelines and our wellness policy. This has proven difficult to accomplish given our small district size.  We have limited personnel and parent availability due to other committee membership or commitments. After some discussion, it was recommend that the wellness committee meeting be scheduled in conjunction with the SIAC meeting. Members of the SIAC committee that were present at this meeting agreed to also be part of the wellness committee (Val Reinke and Heather Schulte) Mary Hogan and myself are already members.  Julie Welsh will also be added as a member of the SIAC committee and will attend their regular meeting.

As the representative of the Wellness Committee I shared with the group some of the things we do to promote student and staff wellness throughout the district as well as working together with other groups/community organizations to promote wellness. I also shared that our Wellness Policy was updated spring of 2019 in conjunction with our state review. Updates are required every 3 years. We are also working on a lunch/wellness link or tab where important information regarding these programs can be better communicated. This work will be ongoing.

Information regarding this meeting and scheduling of future Wellness Committee meetings will be communicated to the current wellness committee members via email.

Remaining SIAC agenda items were reviewed by Mary Hogan See SIAC meeting minutes for full list of members and attendees at this meeting.

3/25/20

In light of the governors 4 week school closure social Isolation recommendation due to COVID-19, We will not have a spring wellness committee meeting.  I have met with school guidance counselor/wellness team member, and Mary Hogan School 7-12 principal and wellness team members regarding weekly wellness updates for staff. The first of those went out via email on 3/25 and Jeannine Hisel and myself will do a weekly Wednesday challenge and health reminders for staff regarding ways to physically and mentally stay healthy during this unusual time. School Kitchen staff Tara Drape, Dianna Schwartzhoff and Gail Whalen are are all continuing school lunch programs via pick up sites in New Albin and Lansing in accordance with federal and state guidelines and maintaining social distancing and hygiene practices. We will update the committee at the time of our next meeting whether this spring or potentially next fall. Submitted by Julie Welsh RN
