WORK SESSION – NOVEMBER 11, 2024

 

A work session of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Allamakee Community School District was held at Kee High Room N110, Lansing, Iowa on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 6:05 p.m.

 

Board members present:  Bobbie Goetzinger, Heather Lutz, Joe Manning, Melanie Mauss, Arla Wagner.  Also present:  Mr. Nick Trenkamp, Superintendent and Michele Martin, Board Secretary.

 

EACS ESSENTIAL INDICATORS:  Mr. Trenkamp gave a presentation that included an overview of certified enrollment, open enrollment history, unspent balance, insurance costs, class size, and current tax rates.

 

ADJOURNMENT:  Manning made a motion to adjourn, and Wagner made the second and the meeting adjourned at 6:55 p.m.  The vote was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

 

 

REGULAR MEETING – NOVEMBER 11, 2024

 

The Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Allamakee Community School District was held at Kee High School Room N110, Lansing, Iowa on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 7:00 pm. The meeting was called to order by Bobbie Goetzinger, Board President.  Upon roll call the following responded, namely: Bobbie Goetzinger, Heather Lutz, Joe Manning, Melanie Mauss, Arla Wagner.  Also present at the meeting were Mr. Nick Trenkamp, Superintendent, PK-12 Principal, Donna Thomas, Chad Winters, Intervention Prevention Specialist, and Michele Martin, Board Secretary.

 

AGENDA ADOPTION:  A motion was made by Lutz and seconded by Wagner to approve the agenda as presented. The vote was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

AUDIENCE COMMENT:  FFA PRESENTATION – NATIONAL CONVENTION:  Ray Rankin, Parker Leppert, Kyle Mauss, Addyson Rankin, Isabelle Mettille, Dustin Stendel and Alexus Rowan gave a presentation on attending the National FFA Convention at Indianapolis, IN.  Mr. Rankin and students highlighted the team events and the additional events they experienced.

 

AUTHORIZATIONS:  A motion was made by Wagner and seconded by Lutz to approve the October 14, 2024; Regular Meeting minutes as presented.  The vote was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

ADJOURNMENT:  A motion to adjourn was made by Mauss and seconded by Lutz at 7:21 p.m.  The vote was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

 

ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING – NOVEMBER 11, 2024

 

The Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Allamakee Community School District was held at Kee High School Room N110, Lansing, Iowa on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 7:22 p.m.  The meeting was called to order by Bobbie Goetzinger, Board President.  Upon roll call, the following responded, namely:  Bobbie Goetzinger, Heather Lutz, Joe Manning, Melanie Mauss, and Arla Wagner.  Also present at the meeting were Mr. Nick Trenkamp, Superintendent, PK-12 Principal, Donna Thomas, Chad Winters, Intervention Prevention Specialist,  and Michele Martin, Board Secretary.

 

AUDIENCE:  None

 

AMENDED AGENDA:  The following were added to the November 11, 2024, Organizational Meeting Agenda:

III.  Organizational Meeting        Item C.  number 6 – Meeting time and Place

  1. New Business         Item F.  Bus Security Cameras

 

Manning made a motion to approve the above additional items to the Organization Meeting, November 11, 2024, meeting.  Wagner seconded the motion.  The vote was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

ELECTION OF SCHOOL BOARD PRESIDENT:   President Goetzinger appointed board secretary Martin as the Temporary Chair to conduct the election of the board president.  Temporary Chair Martin asked for nominations for President, Wagner made a motion to nominate Goetzinger for President and with no other nominations Mauss seconded.  With no other nominations made and with a show of hands, the vote was all ayes for Goetzinger to continue as board president.  The board secretary gave the oath of office to Goetzinger, and she accepted the position.

 

ELECTION OF SCHOOL BOARD VICE PRESIDENT:   President Goetzinger conducted the election for board Vice President.  Manning made a motion to nominate Wagner for Vice President and with no other nominations Mauss seconded.  With no other nominations made and with a show of hands, the vote was all ayes for Wagner to continue as Vice President.  The board secretary gave the oath of office to Wagner, and she accepted the position.

 

APPOINTMENT OF IASB DELEGATE AND LEGISLATIVE ACTION NETWORK REPRESENTATIVE:  A

motion was made by Manning and seconded by Wagner to appoint Heather Lutz as the IASB delegate and the LAN Representative for the ensuing school year.  The was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

APPOINT BOARD MEMBER TO ALLAMAKEE COUNTY ASSESSORS CONFERENCE BOARD:  A motion was made by Manning and seconded by Lutz to appoint Arla Wagner as the Allamakee County Assessors Conference Board for the ensuing school year.  The vote was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

APPOINTMENT OF SECRETARY-TREASURER:  A motion was made by Lutz and seconded by Wagner to appoint Michele Martin as Secretary-Treasurer for the ensuing school year.  The vote was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

OFFICIAL PUBLICATION:  A motion was made by Manning and seconded by Mauss to continue official publication with Waukon Newspaper.  The vote was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

APPOINTMENT OF NORMAL MEETING TIME AND PLACE:  Goetzinger authorized the meeting time for the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. Kee High School, room N110 to continue.  A motion was made by Lutz and seconded by Mauss to continue the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m.  The vote was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

AUDIENCE COMMENT:  None

 

AUTHORIZATIONS:  Wagner moved to approve the November consent items, bills for November, Secretary’s Financial Statement, Activity and Food Service Reports.  Mauss seconded.  The vote was all ayes; Motion carried.

APPROVE CONTRACTS, RESIGNATIONS, TRANSFERS:

A motion was made by Wagner and seconded by Manning to approve the contract for Simon Carlson, Assistant Girls Basketball Coach and Ann Berns, International Club Sponsor.  The vote was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

BOARD POLICY 710.4 – MEAL CHARGES FIRST READING:  Mauss motioned to approve the first reading of Policy 710.4 Meal Charges, Wagner seconded.  The vote was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

KEYSTONE AEA DIRECTOR DISTRICT 3 RESOLUTION TO VOTE:  Eastern Allamakee Community School District Board of Education adopted the resolution that grants a delegate and alternate delegate to cast the district’s weighted vote at the Director District 3 Convention on Monday, December 2, 2024.  Wagner made a motion to approve Joe Manning as the Delegate and the Alternate Delegate as Melanie Mauss.  Lutz seconded the motion.  The vote was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

APPROVE BUS PURCHASE:  Wagner made a motion to approve the purchase of a 2026 Blue Bird Vision 77 Passenger Diesel Bus.  Mauss seconded the motion.  The vote was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

EASTERN ALLAMAKEE DISTRICT PLAN & DISTRICT TEAM, (DISTICT CAREER ACADEMIC PLAN):  This item was tabled.

 

APPROVE PURCHASE OF SECURITY CAMERAS FOR BUSSES:  Manning made a motion to approve the purchase of bus security cameras from Blue Bird in the amount of $11,000.  Mauss seconded the motion.  The vote was all ayes.  Motion carried.

 

ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS: Chad Winters reported that there is a tree in front of Kee High School that needs to be cut down.  He is working on estimates for that project.

 

Mrs. Thomas – Kee High School finals are Thursday and Friday of this week.  New Albin Elementary received book donations to second graders of the book Just Like Caitlin.  Jessie Verdon and Kelsey Meyer are facilitating Little Hawks Hoops.  The Veterans Day Programs went well in New Albin and Lansing.  Mrs. Thomas stated that the roof in New Albin is leaking, repairs will need to be done soon.

 

Mr. Trenkamp stated that Decorah was denied permission to join the Upper Iowa Conference.  The all-staff meeting went well.  Mr. Trenkamp is working on merging handbooks, nutrition grant, staffing and office staff reorganization.  He will also look at the option of early retirement packages.
