REGULAR MEETING – May 17, 2023

The Regular Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Eastern Allamakee Community School District was held at Kee High School Room N110, Lansing, Iowa on Monday, May 17, 2023 at 7:01 pm.  The meeting was called to order by Bobbie Goetzinger, Board President.  Upon roll call the following responded, namely: Bobbie Goetzinger, Melanie Mauss, and Arla Wagner. Absent:  Tony Becker and Kelli Mudderman.  Also present at the meeting: Dr. Dale Crozier, Superintendent, Dr. Sarah Murray, Kee High and Middle School Principal, Donna Thomas, Elementary Principal and Michele Martin, Board Secretary.   Visitors: None

PUBLIC HEARING ON 2023-24 BUDGET AMENDMENT: A motion was made by Mauss and seconded by Wagner to open the public hearing at 7:02.  With no public comment on the proposed budget amendment for 2023-24, a motion was made by Wagner and seconded by Mauss to close the public hearing.  The vote was all ayes. Absent and not voting:  Becker and Mudderman.  Motion carried.

AGENDA ADOPTION:  A motion was made by Mauss and seconded by Wagner to approve the agenda as presented.  The vote was all ayes.   Absent and not voting:  Becker and Mudderman.  Motion carried.

AUDIENCE:  None

AUTHORIZATIONS:  Wagner moved to approve the May consent items, minutes of the April meeting, bills for May, Secretary’s Financial Report for April, and the Student Activity and Food Service April Reports.  Mauss seconded. The vote was all ayes.  Absent and not voting:  Becker and Mudderman.  Motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS: 

APPROVE CONTRACT:  A motion was made by Wagner and seconded by Mauss to approve a Temporary Teacher’s Contract for Kaylee Klaes, Elementary Teacher for the 2023-24 school year.  The vote was all ayes.  Absent and not voting:  Becker and Mudderman.  Motion carried.

ACCEPT RESIGNATIONS: A motion was made by Mauss and seconded by Wagner to accept the following resignations: Jeannine Hisel, Guidance Counselor, Stephanie Vest, Art Teacher, Brad Larkin, Custodian, Samantha Richer, Teacher Aide, Wesley Schmidt-Rundell, Teacher Aide, Ashton Kolsrud, Teacher Aide, Susanne Herman, Jr. High Volleyball Coach, Julie Welsh, Assistant Softball Coach, Hudson Johnson, Jr. High Girls Track Coach, Danny Love, Jr. High Girls Basketball Coach.  The vote was all ayes. Absent and not voting:  Becker and Mudderman.  Motion carried.

APPROVAL OF THE 2022-23 BUDGET AMENDMENT:  A motion was made by Wagner and Seconded by Mauss to approve the 2022-23 Budget Amendment.  The vote was ayes.  Absent and not voting:  Becker and Mudderman.  Motion carried.

APPROVE SIAC MINUTES 2022-23 AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS 2023-24: A motion was made by Wagner and seconded by Mauss to approve the agendas and minutes of the School Improvement Advisory Committee for the October 19, 2022, and the December 7, 2022, meetings.  Members:  Val Reinke, Chris Troendle, Susanne Herman, Jeannine Hisel, Heather Lutz, Dale Crozier, Donna Thomas, Sarah Murray, Julie Welsh, Isabelle Hammell, Peyton Becker.  The vote was all ayes.  Absent and not voting:  Becker and Mudderman.  Motion carried.

ADMINISTRATIVE REPORTS:  Dr. Sarah Murray reported that graduation went well, and the senior trip was great.  The master schedule is done for next school year.  Finals will be on May 23rd and May 24th.   Summer school is in the works and on track.  Girls State Track is Friday, May 19th.  Donna Thomas reported that Sierra Colsch will be doing elementary summer school.  FAST testing is complete.  Donna will be a chaperone for the Spanish trip in June 2023.  New Albin Elementary has their field day on Tuesday, May 23rd.  Dr. Dale Crozier informed everyone that Instructional Support Levy ends in 2024.  A decision will need to take place as to a board approved levy versus voted.  Classified staff pay with 12-month contract and 9-month contract was discussed in regard to snow days.

ADJOURNMENT: Wagner made a motion to adjourn, Mauss made the second, and the meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.  The vote was all ayes.  Absent and not voting:  Becker and Mudderman.  Motion carried.
