504.7 Emergency School Closing

Code No.  504.7 EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSINGS

 

The superintendent or a designee shall have the authority to close schools because of extreme weather or other emergency conditions for the length of time the emergency exists.  Provisions will be made to publicly announce such closings via available mass communication media as soon as possible after the decision to close.

 

In weather related closings the following guidelines will be adhered to:

 

  1. In extreme heat and/or humidity school can be closed, but the athletic director can permit athletic practices with the notification of the danger of heat to the student athlete.
  2. When school is closed at the end of the school day due to concerns regarding road conditions, all activities including practices, games, contests, and concerts will be cancelled.
  3. When school is cancelled in the morning due to weather, the athletic director will make a decision by 2:00 p.m. whether weather conditions have improved to the extent that games, contests, or concerts can be held or not.
